Updating you for the New Year 2011

Wheh! the holidays and the end of 2010 was blasting by at lightening speed for me. Each day seemed like I had not enough seconds in it to finish all the work I have been trying to do . I do feel that we have accomplished a lot with my soup, Holy Posole. And I say we because the people I work with daily on this soup is not just me. It is all the people at the wonderful factory in Dallas , it is the genius I get to work with and ask questions daily, It is the people that are so positive about this soup that they help me any way they can, and Itis the stores that buy our soup to sell to the people and also the people who buy the soup and appreciate it when they eat it. It’s the people that write about it and work towards helping me present it to the world. Honestly, working with all of these people make me so happy and I really feel I have a completely new community of people I get to be a part of , just because we eat Holy Posole!

So in this new year, I hope to be able to send you some information from people that have sent me their wonderful testimonials about their experinces with my soup.

Also I think it would be fun to show you how I make my soup at home and then you can try it sometime if you would like to .

The other thing I wanted you to know is about our  efforts to feed our neighbors and friends who would like to have a taste of some healing soup as well. I just returned a few weeks ago from El Paso , after taking 50 cases of Holy Posole to the mission, which in turn took the Posole across the border to Jaurez to feed the children and adults for their holidays. Posole is a very traditonal thing to eat during the holidays and I felt compelled to do what our buddy,Tom Russell said he would do someday with Holy posole.

After buying a case of my Holy Posole last year , he commented “I am going to take this posole across the border and free the people. Peace through Posole, and Harmony through Hominy.” So we did just that. And I do hope that it at least freed one person at least.

I do have pictures and I will send them along soon. But, I have a short time only to blog on my other sites before my coaching call happens….so this afternoon i will insert photos for you to see. come back later to veiw them.

and Happy New Year….it’s gonna be a great year!

That Cornbread! Not like any other…..

Usually when I make my Posole for parties and celebrations , I always try to make my special jalapeno cornbread to go with it.  Everyone around this area has surely tasted some kind of cornbread mixed with jalapenos and other ingredients to make it the best that one could possibly eat. I learned to make cornbread from my Mother when I was about 5 or 6. As I got older, I begin to learn certan tricks to making it better and better cornbread. Probably cornbread fanatics know these tricks , and I may reveal some of them later on in this blog or the next.

Never the less, later as I got older and was working so many different jobs to make extra money while going to art school, I learned a new twist on cornbread from a lady who I worked with at the computer factory at Texas-Instruments in Lubbock, Texas. She would bring to work this incredible cornbread and actually share it with me at 2 am in the morning when we had lunch!…. We worked night shifts at the computer factory. (my job was to check all the plastic parts for any scratches on them , and if they had any scatches, I had to toss them ….I was titled “quality control”….no wonder my eyes are worn out today!) anyway, this is where I discovered a new way to make cornbread and also it is when my life begin to change as a cook.

Between the Posole coming into my life and this new way to make cornbread, I begin to find true “joy in cooking”. This all may sound corny to some people, but looking back , I can see that I had found my passion without really understanding at the time what that meant. It just seemed too simple to be true.

I was under the impression that I needed to do lofty and magnificient things in my life, which was seeming to be quite unreachable at the time. Little did I know that my true love in life is actually cooking and making soup and cornbread for my family and friends. All the other stuff I do is just biding my time, til I can once again make more cornbread and soup/Posole , for the people.

I hope you are able to taste my special cornbread someday, I know you will really like it. I intend to develop it for all people to enjoy, especially the gluten free people in my life. Never the less, some people have told me they thought the cornbread was better than the Holy Posole, which tells me ,I better get to crakin’ on this production of my cornbread, because I believe it may make a few people happy when they eat it.!

Much love to everyone during these holidays.!

So here I am today , offering you the information about this cornbread, and my soup….letting you know that soon I will be releasing the cornbread as a partner to Holy Posole. Some people that know this special cornbread that I make will be happy to hear this news. Others that do not have a clue about this specific cornbread will learn immediately as soon as they taste it. I will call it “Holy Posole Jalapeno Cornbread!”

There Is now Holy Posole Again!

After almost a year of developing and working and testing and interviewing different factories and studying and making and remaking posole and making and designing and redesigning labels and getting the bar code right and the nutritionals and all of everything updated….we finally have posole.!I have learned so much and am still learning every single day about not only how to put an item of food on the shelf  but how to  live with waiting and hurrying and all about myself and others. So It is just plain fun for me but also a lot of hard work, something that really does not matter if it happens to be your passion. It is a wondeful thing when you find your passion, what ever it may be , and I find mine to be making Holy Posole and serving it.

If you have never tasted the soup that I make, then you may be in for a surprise, and for certain there are some folks who just plain cannot eat it for one reason or another. And that is fine by me.

I believe that now that we have the formula for making large amounts of soup , we can take this soup to the far corners of the world where there may be a need for some comfort and happiness. This is my dream and focus….so we’ll start with Austin. Actually we’ll start with my own home and then move out to the neighbors and family and friends and then to strangers and then to enemys and then to the world ….I learned a meditation one time from a really great teacher and this is what we were taught.…begin inside and work outward to the universe with our love. Seems to work for me, and we can do this practice with anything, including my passion my soup. You can choose what ever it is that seems to make you go forward, and it may be standing on your head or doing math. whatever it is… great ! Just so it is what you really love, and then it will all seem perfect to you. I know that I feel very happy doing everything possible to make this the finest soup I can and to make sure everyone will enjoy it as much as I do.

I am excited that it is winter now, and we have the soup to give/sell to people.

I have just learned  that Yoko Ono offers grants for people promoting Peace through one of their projects. I plan to look into the Holy Posole as a project to feed the people with a “hungry heart” as Bruce springsteen sings about. In fact, I will ask him to consider helping in some way to take my soup to people that would love to have a bowl of Holy Posole and heal their hearts of anger and sadness, and make them feel loved and happy ,a feeling we  remember being periodically in our lives.

We’ll see , but never the less, I am ecstatic today to be sending our soup to all the people that seem to want it today.

On The Brink of Having New Jars of Holy Posole

“May I please be patient with these jars of Holy Posole to be manufactured here in Texas.”
This is my new affirmation as I work with some very brilliant people. We are completing the process of making the best Holy Posole for manufacturing possible. This takes time and a lot of brainpower and care. I am lucky, I know, to be able to have such helpful people working with me on this beautiful project. I would love to guess at the time frame on the completion of our new batch for the grocery stores, and will say that I believe it is this summer. This will be the perfect time to have it placed in my 2 favorite big grocery stores here in Austin, Texas, Whole Foods and Central Market,HEB. Plus I intend to provide more than enough Holy Posole to Bubba’s country store here in Austin on Hwy 1826 and my most wonderful grocery store favorite, Fresh Plus on West Lynn. In the beginning, these are the people we intend to provide plenty of Holy Posole for this years football games, all the social gatherings for this fall , and most of all Christmas and New Years! What an exciting adventure all of this is for me and I cannot tell you how much I have learned through all of this.
As I have said before putting your favorite recipe on the shelves of grocery stores is not as easy as one may expect……There are many steps to be taken to provide legal safety for the food we eat which I will never complain about. I want my product to be delicious and safe for all that eat it, and this is why it is taking so long to re- manufacture and have it made as perfect as we can. I am honored to be working with this new factory in Lewisville,Texas and feel that they have the ability to produce a jar of perfect Holy Posole for all of us.I will keep you updated as we get nearer to the final production date.” May I be patient….”

Holy Posole Party in NYC

I just returned from NYC and I have to say it was an extraordinary time for me. I wish I could go back and just spend a month or 2. There is too much to see and many many great people to be with. I am lucky to have so many wonderful talented friends that are artists. I love to be around artists because most of my friends that are artists are mostly in the moment which is a very natural way of just being here right now. When we all create things , music, paintings, film, writing, etc, we are here right now and that is perfect.
I went to some great art shows while i was in NYC. Two shows were by my friend Kiki smith , where I stayed while I was in NYC. We decided to have a Posole party the last night I was there,( i stayed a week) and we celebrated 3 birthdays at this party. Malu , who turned 21 years old, but was in San Francisco at the time,( her Father blew out the candles and made a wish for her.)

DB making a wish for his daughter

We also celebrated Justin Lowe’s birthday and he blew out his own candle. Then we celebrated Racheal’s birthday,Kiki’s assistant extraodinaire, and Kiki blew out her candle for her, since she was not present. We ate bowls and bowls of Posole and ate lots of cornbread before we ate cake.
I felt so honored to cook in NYC for this posole event. I had prepared a box of special spices and hominy and green chiles and had it sent to NYC before I left on my trip to the East coast. But, ironically, the box did not arrive until I had gone all over NYC gathering the ingredients for the soup. As I completed all the cooking and sat down to rest with a cup of tea, the doorbell rang and the fed ex man handed us the large box of special Hatch Green chiles and Chimayo red chile, and golden cans of hominy. I added some of these ingredients to the final giant pots of posole I had been cooking all day.
I look forward to going back to NYC and cooking more Holy Posole.
We are working on getting the final product ready for the Dallas Fair in Sept. for “Go Texas” showcase. I’ll keep you posted on our progress.

Marfa Film Festival and Holy Posole

The Marfa Film Festival in Marfa, Texas was a complete delight and full of surprises for everyone. Not only are the people in the city of Marfa extremely wonderful, they liked my posole as well. I sold out everyday in my little booth before closing time at 7p.m., and could not keep up with all of the requests for more posole. The volunteers brought tickets by to turn in for their bowls of posole and cornbread, so I have stacks of these blue tickets to turn in to the administrators of the film festival still. Robin Lambaria , who co-ordinated this wonderful event, invited me to be a part of the film festival, and be one of the sponsors. Needless to say I was completely honored to be a part of this hugely successful event. I believe they expected maybe 300 people and received twice as many people at the event. Maybe this is one reason i ran out of Holy Posole every day to serve to the people, because there were so many extra people that showed up. Never the less, I would like to thank the 2 ladies that allowed me to use their stoves to cook my cornbread in, since the stove I planned to use when i got there was broken,(Feng Shui experts would say “get this stove fixed immediately for prosperity sakes!) So I am grateful to these ladies , and also very thankful for having the space to park my posole wagon in the driveway of another lady from Marfa. She was extremely gracious and so interesting to talk with. I loved hearing all of the stories from Marfa and why people ended up in the town. And also enjoyed hearing why they were still there.
My little booth became a very small restaurant, and I loved people coming and sitting in the shade on the little stools at the bistro tables , eating my soup and talking about everything, from films to life in general. Honestly, it was the most glorious time I have had in some time….and I truly want to do this more.
In the meantime, I am back home in Austin, working on my Holy Posole and seeing if we can get this soup put properly in the beautiful new jars and ready for the State Fair of Texas at the “Go Texas” booth. “Go Texas” is an organization that completely supports and promotes all Texas foods. The lady came by my booth in Marfa and said she loved my product and wanted to present this at the fair in September. Whole foods and HEB and many big Texas supermarkets will be attending the party and presentation. I will be there with my Holy Posole and I hope you can come as well. Hopefully we’ll be adding the Go Texas sign on my new label.
In the meantime, I once again want to thank Robin for inviting me to the Marfa Film Festival. I would like to also mention and rave about the Pizza place set up next to me, named Fired Up Kitchen, from Austin, Tx. (firedupkitchen.com). These guys helped me so much setting up my booth. They also sold so many handmade incredibly tasty pizzas to the city of Marfa during the Festival. Thank goodness they were there, since i ran out of my soup, they could feed people way into the night!

Spring and getting ready for this years big posole release

Today , I am out to get the test tubes and test the batches of posole made ready for our experts to test for our new batches of posole. It’s a very exciting time and am confident once we get the PH just perfect , all will be ready to produce and deliver for our big Fall release to all the wonderful Texas grocery stores. Needless to say , we look forward to being able to provide my wonderful healing soup for more people than before. While we await the results of the testing I am getting my label tweeked and I am having t-shirts made here in Austin to allow people to buy to wear up until the time we have the Posole ready for delivery. The label will be the design on the t-shirt. I plan to later on include a t-shirt along with my gift packs for this winter holidays. You can put your name on the list at my site holyposole.net if you wish to be the first to order our Holy Posole and t-shirts. I am very excited about my posole and I think a lot of people are. And those that are not excited can go find something else to be excited about.
This spring is extraordinary. It makes me want to go out and buy a bonnet for spring. Mybe I’ll get a sombreo like the lady on the label riding the horse on my holy Posole. Never the less , I wish everyone of you reading this blog today a very magical spring day experince and look forward to serving you holy Posole very soon.
Because of the computer and my assistant coach helping me figure all of this wonderful technology out, I am able to send these messages to you and the world for this news about my posole. It is truly facinating anf I am ecstatic to be learning how to use this wonderful tool. It’s as exciting as when i first tasted and learned how to make holy Posole. you think I am kidding , but i am not. When there is excitement and electricity mixed with creativity I believe this is the TRUTH.
